Trimester two of this journey is coming to an end in the next few weeks for baby small and I. The name is still in the air and for now, not set and stone but between two names. You never realize how hard it can be to pick out names until you are pregnant but we have one trimester left and we are getting down to the wire.
A few unexpected things have occurred this trimester, for one my morning sickness didn’t go away. I have read so many places and even heard from my doctor that it would go away once I got into my second trimester, unfortunately this mama wasn’t so lucky. I actually get sick in the morning, and sometimes throughout the day still even certain sounds or smells make me gag.
I felt the baby move for the first time at about week 21, at first it felt like bubbles rumbling in my stomach (or gas) but each day it kept occurring and now is more distinct than ever. I can actually see him moving around on the outside of my stomach which is super exciting, Jimmie also got to feel him move for the first time, eeekkkk!
Honestly, this experience has been so surreal this far and I can’t believe I am more the half way done with it.
Other things like itchy belly, have been popping up in my second trimester and this mama is tripling her lotion rub downs during the day!
The unexpected
Now, on to the unexpected things that have occurred. I found out about a month ago while getting my 20 week appointment and ultrasound that I have a uterine fibroid. If you don’t know what this is, I’ll explain. A uterine fibroid is a noncancerous growth of tissue, it is said to be pretty common, however during pregnancy the estrogen hormone may cause the fibroid to grow and possibly cause complications.
My fibroid is 7cm and about the size of an orange, it is also front and center on the top of my uterus. My doctor has told me this could be a reason as to why I was showing sooner and why my stomach is a little bigger at this stage. When I first found out about my fibroid, ofcourse like any new mom to be I was terrified and had so many questions that needed to be answered.
With all of this has came the biggest scare of my pregnancy so far. I began having pulling sensation or what I thought may have been pre-term labor. My stomach began to tighten and release and y’all this was the scariest thing I have experience so far, I didn’t have any pain with this yet but it did come about 2 days later. I finally went to my hospital to labor and delivery, they hooked me up to a bunch of machines to make sure I wasn’t going into labor (which I wasn’t, thank god). After this hospital visit I was in pain and could barely walk for the next 3 days and could only take Tylenol for the pain. Luckily, the pain went away I was able to return to work and haven’t had any issues since. My doctor stated, it could have been a mixture of the fibroid growing and also round ligament pain.
Luckily that is over with and I pray I have no more issues, as for now baby small is growing well!
Items I have been using
Some items that I have been using this trimester. LOTION and OIL!!!! One of the top things I have been using, although my skin is prone to stretch marks I utilize the lotions and oil to prevent the marks from being as dark as they could be and so that my stomach has a smooth transition while it is stretching. My favorite oil right now is bio oil, which is curated to help with stretch marks and I use the palmers coco butter for my belly as the lotion.
Other items I have been using are things like Jimmie’s Christmas jammies (my favorite) they are soft and don’t get tight around my belly which I love. I bought them for Jimmie last Christmas and now they are kind of mine for the next 3 months ahah.
