While Chicago is way colder than Texas, there was so much stuff we were able to do while in the windy city. Thats exactly what it was hahah windy! We spent 4 days in Chicago so we had a lot of time to see and do everything we wanted. When we first started driving to the city it looks so similar to New York City you can see those post (here, here) Honestly I wish we could have stayed for a few more days because our hotel room was so comfy. You may be asking yourself what to do in Chicago today? This blog will include everything we did during our trip to Chicago.
Where to Stay
We stayed in the Millennium Knickerbocker and I don’t regret it at all! This will for sure be a repeat hotel when we visit Chicago. The hotel features a bar ( which is so comfy and has windows to look out at the streets) and a restaurant, now because we went in December the hotel had their Christmas tree up and it was so pretty to look at when you walked in. This hotel is a little older and the elevator shows for that but it reminded me of Titanic, so I was getting all the feels.
What to do
Want to know what to see in Chicago? We stayed mainly in the Magnificent Mile area which is a great area for tourist, Magnificent Mile features tons of activities and shopping ohh and food, lots of yummy food! See our favorite place we ate down below.
McCormick- Tribune Ice Skating Rink
This is a must in Texas you don’t get to Ice skate outside because, well it doesn’t get cold enough. Y’all when I tell you this was so fun yet so exhausting ( Mainly because Jimmie likes to have competitions in everything ahaha) I was worn out and needed a nap by the end of the day.
The Citypass was a major money saver for us, it comes with 5 attractions that you can visit and at a huge discount at 50 % off. Now the cool thing about the CityPass is that it is also available in other cities. If you are traveling make sure you check out their website before you go touring to see if city pass can save you some money and I mention you get to skip ticket lines which at these main attractions can be super long!
Places we visited using city pass: Shedd Aquarium, 360 Chicago, Skydeck.
places we didn’t visit, planetarium, and field Museum.
Navy Pier
Home of the Navy Pier ferris wheel, unfortunately it was closed when we went but the view of the city from the pier was absolutely breathe taking! For this to be a lake, the water was so pretty and it made the view even prettier.
Lincoln Park zoo
During the holidays the zoo has holiday lights displayed throughout the zoo. Did you know Lincoln Park zoo is FREE all year long?! So cool!
What to Eat
Giordanos
Chicago famous deep dish pizza! This was a must on our list because everyone that we asked where we should eat this is the place they recommended. One thing i have to say, delicious! The pizza was super cheesy and filled with veggies and meats. So yes, if you are headed to Chicago soon this is a must for sure!
Yolk
We ate here for breakfast each day and their all- star breakfast was my favorite, I live in Fort worth and I didn’t know there was one of these restaurants here so umm you may catch me at yolk ordering an allstar with french toast sometime this week, I’m just saying.
Sugar Factory
This place is famous for the drinks! They pour them at your table so you can get an snapchat worthy shot! Im not a heavy drinker so Jimmie and I shared the watermelon Goblet, it comes with watermelon candy on top. I could have drank this by myself because you can’t taste the alcohol until you stand up ahaha. I also ordered the fettuccine alfredo which was really good as well.
Peets Coffee
Because there was a starbucks on every single block you turned on, I wanted to try something different. I ordered a hot Vanilla Latte from Peets coffee which is across the street from Ice skating. It was perfect because I was so cold after skating and this was a great way to warm up. I love that there coffee wasn’t too sweet as well!
Garretts Popcorn
We purchased the garrets mix, this is Chicagos famous popcorn. It was super good too! The Garretts mix came with a mix of cheese corn ( super cheesy!) and caramel crisp. This was a great mix and I really want to order some for the holidays because we ate it all when we got back home. It is a nice savory and sweet mix, if you want to try garrets popcorn I would recommend purchasing the mix rather than each on its own.
Thank you for stopping by!
